Captain Cotterell will represent OCIMF on the Green Award Committee.
Captain David Cotterell joined OCIMF as Director in April 2010. He commenced a seagoing career with Shell Tankers (UK) Ltd in 1974 progressing to Master and gaining experience in the operation of Crude, Product, LNG, LPG, Chemical and Bulk Carriers. In 1993 Captain Cotterell moved into tanker operations in London with Shell International Shipping Co. Ltd. and later held maritime roles in both upstream and downstream businesses.
He joined the shipping leadership team of Shell International Trading and Shipping Co. Ltd. in 2005 as General Manager Maritime Standards (Governance) with responsibility for Independent Assurance of Maritime Assets and Interfaces, Tanker Vetting, HSSE and development of marine skill-pool. During the following 5 years he led the development of Shell Group standards governing maritime operations across the Royal Dutch Shell Group.
Captain Cotterell has enjoyed a long association with organisations promoting standards within the shipping industry. Formerly chairing the OCIMF SIRE Focus Group, OCIMF's General Purposes Committee and the Greenhouse Gas Task Force.
Captain Cotterell is a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners through which he works to mentor cadet officers and promote careers in the merchant navy.
