Port Nelson new Green Award incentive provider

Port Nelson has decided to join ports already waving Green Award flag and intends to provide 5% discount to Green Award ships.

Starting 1 December 2009, the port offers a 5% discount off tariff price for marine services for all tankers and bulk carriers certified by Green Award.

Port Nelson works hard to reduce the impact of its activities on the local and global environment and became the first port in New Zealand to receive accreditation against internationally recognised standard ISO 14001 for continuous improvement in environmental management. Joining Green Award is the next important step forward.

Located at the top of New Zealand's South Island, Port Nelson is the gateway for a region that produces forestry products, fruit and wine and is a processing base for seafood. The port provides modern infrastructure, teamed with flexible customer-orientated services that include stevedoring and container packing. The region’s export cargoes attract a number of international shipping lines linking to global markets.

The Green Award foundation welcomes Port Nelson onboard and looks forward to a mutually beneficial partnership.
