Captain H. Snaith is on the Board of Experts

Captain Howard N. Snaith has returned to the Green Award Board of Experts. He is General Manager of the Chemical Distribution Institute (CDI). Captain Snaith is familiar with the Green Award scheme as he provided his expertise to Green Award while serving as Marine Director of INTERTANKO.

Howard Snaith first went to sea in 1979 and during 17 years at sea, sailed in various ranks on Oil, Chemical & Gas Tankers, Dry Bulk, Container & Passenger vessels, eventually sailing as Master on IMO Type II Chemical Parcel Tankers.

He is a UK Qualified Class 1 Master Mariner and was elected a Fellow of the Nautical Institute in 2008, in recognition of having made a significant contribution to the advancement of nautical science. He is also a member of the Baltic Exchange and a Younger Brother of Trinity House.

He was one of the Merchant Navy Liaison Officers on part time secondment throughout all of 2009 at The Maritime Security Centre Horn of Africa, (MSCHOA) as part of the EU Operation ATALANTA and was awarded the EU “Common Security & Defence” Service Medal in 2010.

Since coming ashore he has undertaken a variety of roles including team leader with the UK Marine Pollution Control Unit (MPCU),
which headed up a short notice strike force to handle chemical incidents in UK waters; A CDI Inspector; Oil/Chemical tanker fleet manager; bulk carrier fleet supervisor; expert witness in arbitration and admiralty law courts; marine consultant; salvage master; offshore heavy lift surveyor and a warranty and towage surveyor and was also Marine Director with INTERTANKO for 11 years before joining CDI as General Manager in September 2011.

The Green Award management is delighted to be able to work with Mr. Snaith again.
