Green Award for LPG carriers in works

Over the last few years, we have been looking into possibilities to broaden our certification programme further to LPG carriers. This demand has come from our Certificate Holders, who we see as real experts in the industry. The preparations are in the final stage and we expect to gain the final approval for launch by the end of this year.

Green Award currently runs a certification scheme for ship types of Oil/Product, Dry Bulk, LNG, Chemical, Containers and their respective technical management offices, as well as a programme for Inland ships.

As it is Green Award’s ambition to continuously broaden and maximise the effect of going beyond regulations for safety in shipping and protection of the (marine) environment, together with our stakeholders we saw that the development of the LPG certification programme would be a logical step after we entered the LNG sector several years ago.

As a result, a research project was run which included a feasibility assessment and consultations with the stakeholders in the LPG transport sector that provided expertise on LPG related technical issues (e.g. design, cargo operations, training).

In parallel, several more organisations were selected to request feedback on the full draft requirements. The group consists of several certificate holders, ports and industry representatives. Upon some final fine-tuning, these requirements will enter the final stage of approval process.

We are aiming at January 2016 for the launch of the programme and simultaneously would like to welcome the first Incentive Provider port.
