Green Award News 2005 # 5

Season's greetings

The Green Award Team would like to thank everybody involved for their enthusiasm and cooperation in 2005. We wish you prosperity and safe sailing in 2006.

Tariffs unchanged

Following the latest Committee meeting, the management team of Green Award is pleased to advise that for the year 2006, the Green Award Tariffs will not increase.

This is the fourth time in the history of Green Award that we can afford not to increase the tariffs. This means that the tariffs for application fees, office audit fees and annual fees are still on the level of 2002.

W
e are glad to share this success of Green Award with our participants and are grateful to them for their efforts and confidence.

The Green Award Tariff list 2006 can be downloaded here.

Initial certification date

We would like to emphasize that the initial certification date is the determining factor in receiving an incentive. The date of the initial certification is the date for the initial survey. Vessels that request an incentive for a port call before the date of the initial survey do not qualify for an incentive.

Green Award employees

Green Award has a new addition to her team. Claire van Wolde-Loar fulfills the role as Project and Management Assistant, providing administrative back up support. Originally from California, Claire has lived in the Netherlands for over 11 years. She has worked in administrative and secretarial positions for companies like Smit Maritime Contractors, Unilever and Hogeschool INHOLLAND.

Please join us in welcoming her on board and wishing her all the best in her new position.

Mr. Andrea Trevisan has been promoted to Green Award surveyor as per 1 January 2006. As ship surveyor trainee Mr. Trevisan fulfilled an intensive education and training program that is developed by Green Award and approved and accredited by the Nautical Institute.

He attended numerous surveys on board the Green Award vessels and was coached and trained by the experienced Green Award surveyors Peter van Hattum, Rob den Heijer and Ben Metselaar.

Green Award trusts that Mr. Trevisan is a valuable strengthening of our team of surveyors.

Annual Report 2004

We are proud of the Annual Report 2004 that is a tribute to the seafarers.

The Green Award Foundation is convinced that the greatest strength of quality shipping lies in the people who are the heart of shipping business: the seafarers. We would like to pay tribute to them by including in this Annual Report a series of photos, reflecting daily life on board.

The Annual Report has been sent by mail and a PDF-file of the Annual Report is available here.

Green Award activities in the Baltic Area

Sea Traffic & the environment

On 8 and 9 December a seminar with the subject Sea Traffic & the environment, organised by the Centre for Maritime Studies of the Turku University was held in Espoo, Finland. The seminar addressed the growing concern about the intensification of sea traffic in the Baltic Sea and the imposed risks to the marine environment in this area. A range of expert speakers and delegates discussed possible measures towards reducing the risks from shipping and how to protect the sensitive environment in this region

Green Award gladly accepted the invitation to explaining the Green Award scheme to an audience representing stakeholders mainly from Finland.

GreenPort 2006: Environment to the fore at Antwerp

Recognizing the need for a forum where the economic, legislative, regulatory and operational issues can be debated, GreenPort 2006 will convene in An twerp on 22/23 February 2006. The conference will provide an in-depth analysis of the financial and social impact that ports have in the shipping business and on a region’s economy – and it will review the repercussions caused by the blocking of port development.

Port development is no longer being driven by financial and engineering concerns – the process of environmental approval and consent that is critical.

Green Award gives full support to this conference. Mr. Jan Fransen, managing director, will deliver a presentation on Green Award and will elucidate how ports can make a difference in the maritime environment.
