Green Award signed MOU with Canadian Ports
The Green Award Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Association of Canadian Port Authorities (ACPA). The intention of this MOU is to cooperate on developing/implementing the Green Award program in Canadian Ports. This development was very much welcomed by the Canadian government: Transport Canada applauds the initiative taken by ACPA.
The MOU is intended to provide the basis for collaboration to investigate the feasibility and encourage the implementation of the Green Award program in Canadian Ports. This collaboration reflects the main objective of the parties to promote safe and environmentally friendly shipping in Canadian waters. The effort under this agreement will be results-orientated in nature, creating a win-win situation for ports, ship owners and the Canadian environment. To this end, work is already underway to collect relevant data across Canada’s national Port System with a view to having important preliminary data for Canada’s Green Award Program by March 2008.
The Green Award Foundation has been in contact with Canadian authorities for many years and sees this MOU as an important milestone in the implementation of the Green Award Program in Canada.

Green Award on promotional tour in Asia
During the summer, Green Award made a tour in Asia and visited Port Authorities, Ministries and Embassies in order to promote the Green Award Foundation. Green Award paid the following organisations a visit:
Hong Kong: Hong Kong Port Authority
China: The Ministry of Communication and the ports of Shenzhen, Ningbo, Dalian, Tiangjing.
Japan: The Ministry of Land and Infrastructure, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, The Japan Port and Harbour Association, International Association of Ports and Harbours, Tokyo MOU, The Ocean Policy Research Foundation, the ports of Kobe, Osaka, Yokkaichi, Nagoya, Kawasaki, Yokohama, Chiba, and six shipping companies.
Green Award appreciates having had the opportunity to inform all organisations about the efforts regarding the promotion of quality shipping. Green Award believes that Asian stakeholders are firm encouragers of quality shipping encompassing safety, quality and environment.
For that reason, Green Award trusts that cooperation is possible in further promoting quality shipping. We look forward to positive developments, especially in the ports, since incentive providers are of paramount importance for the Green Award Foundation and its certificate holders.

Annual Report 2006
We are proud of the Annual Report 2006 that is a tribute to the seafarers for the third time in a row.
The Green Award Foundation is convinced that the greatest strength of quality shipping lies in the people who are the heart of shipping business: the seafarers. We would like to pay tribute to them by including in this Annual Report a series of photos, reflecting daily life on board.

Green Ship Technology
Environmental performance has also become an element of competitiveness. In today’s world, environmental and economic objectives go hand-in-hand. Operating environmentally friendly shipping has costs but also benefits: how can shipowners and operators balance the two effectively? The Green Ship Technology addresses this topic.
Taking place in Rotterdam, one of the world’s leading maritime centres, this 5th annual conference is a forum where participants can exchange ideas and experiences, and keep up-to-date on technical and legislative developments, in the plenary sessions, the break-out sessions and in the informal networking breaks.
