The first port in the East that recognizes Green Award certified vessels

Green Award is pleased to announce that the Port of Sohar gives rebates of 5% on its port dues to Green Award certified tankers. The rebates come info effect as of 1 January 2009 .

The ceremony took place on January 16, in the Sultanate of Oman, in the presence of port and government officials preceding the appearance of Dutch Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Máxima who opened the new office of the Sohar Industrial Port Company, and the new International Maritime College of Oman.

Green Award's Managing director Jan Fransen handed over the Green Award plaque and flag to Mr. Hans Smits, member of the Board of the Port and Jamal Aziz, Deputy CEO of the Port.

The port of Sohar is developed by a joint venture of the Port of Rotterdam and the Sultanate of Oman. It is a rapidly expanding world class port. With current investments exceeding $12 billion, it is one of the world’s largest port development projects. Sohar houses three clusters: logistics, petrochemicals and metals.
