The certification programme for inland navigation vessels has been launched in 2011 with success. Up to this date 80 inland barges have been certified and new applications keep coming. There are two people currently working for the inland shipping department.

Meet the Green Award inland shipping team:

Fred de Leeuw van Weenen
Fred de Leeuw van Weenen holds an inspector position with the Green Award Inland shipping department. He carries out surveys on board of the inland barges applying for the Green Award certificate verifying if they are eligible for certification.

Fred has long experience in the inland shipping. In his young years he first sailed as skipper and later as Captain inland shipping. After that he served as Captain at Rijkswaterstaat, which is the executive arm of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment. On behalf of the Minister and State Secretary, Rijkswaterstaat is responsible for the design, construction, management and maintenance of the main infrastructure facilities in the Netherlands. After gaining more skills and experience, in 2001 he started inspecting inland navigation barges for the Rijkswaterstaat. Since 2011 he has been employed by the bureau Green Award as an inspector.

Mr. de Leeuw van Weenen is married and has 3 children.

Cora Bayens-Bosman
Cora is an assistant project Inland Shipping. She deals with new applications and certification, arranges surveys and takes care of other procedures related to the inland barges certification.
Ms. Bayens comes from a family with a background in inland shipping, so she feels completely at home in inland navigation matters.

She started her career in 1982 as an administrative assistant, and in 1985 was employed by a Dutch Shipping Center association where she continued working as an administrator dealing with inland shipping matters and has built up experience in technical and documentation aspects of this industry.

Cora is married and has 2 daughters.
