New Green Award Committee members: Mr. Rauta, Mr. Cassels and Mr. Ashdown

Green Award has welcomed new members to its Committee:

Mr. Dragos Rauta (INTERTANKO)
Mr. Rauta represents The International Association of Independent Tanker Owners (INTERTANKO), an organisation which has been a strong supporter of the Green Award since its inception.

Mr. Rauta is a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer with an aggregate of 35 years of experience in ship building, ship design, towing tank testing and research as well as direct assistance to tanker owners, members of INTERTANKO. He joined INTERTANKO in 1990 at the time the US OPA 90 and IMO mandated double hull design on tankers. Since then, he represented INTERTANKO at IMO and has been a part of a number of studies with governments and other industry associations’ participation which contributed to major operational and quality changes within the tanker sector.

                                                      Mr. Andrew Cassels (OCIMF)
Andrew Cassels recently joined OCIMF as Director from BP Shipping Ltd. where he was VP of Safety and Operational Risk (embedded in BP Shipping but reporting independently on the operational integrity of BP Shipping). Andrew was also the BP Shipping Segment Marine Authority.

Andrew joined BP in 1975 as a Deck Cadet and spent 14 years at sea serving in ranks up to Master on various BP oil tankers in both global and UK coastal trades. Following a move ashore Andrew held a broad range of roles across BP Shipping and BP Exploration. Although Andrew has some commercial experience (chartering and demurrage) his main roles have been within the two operational areas of BP Shipping; Marine Assurance, where he has held roles in Vetting and Port and Terminals including a posting as the eastern hemisphere Assurance Manager; and Fleet Operations, which included time running the BP Maritime Services manning provision to BP Shipping, Fleet Integrity, Procurement and Agency.

Over the years Andrew’s other roles have included directorships at East Asia Response Ltd (EARL) and the Middle East Navigation Aids Service (MENAS), MD of the BP ShipCare vessel lay-up service, Member of the Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB) and he is currently a Council Member of the Merchant Navy Welfare Board.

Mr. Robert Ashdown (IACS)

Mr Ashdown is the Secretary General of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) whose twelve Member Societies class more than 90% of the world's cargo carrying tonnage.

After an initial period with Fujitsu, he started his shipping career with the UK Chamber of Shipping where he held several positions, the last being ‘Head of Technical’. During that period he was also the Director of the British Rig Owners’ Association (BROA). In 2010, Mr Ashdown joined the European Cruise Council in Brussels as Technical Director and then, following a merger with the US based Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), became Secretary General of CLIA Europe before leaving to join IACS in May 2015.
