We are excited to announce the first ever Green Award ship survey in Mumbai. The survey was on the M.T. Sonangol Cabinda, a crude oil tanker managed by Wallem Ship Management Limited. The survey which was carried out at Mumbai Port, India, in June 2024 aims at accelerating progress being made towards maritime sustainability in the region.
Earlier this year, we announced our presence in Mumbai and nearby regions. Sonangol Cabinda became our first ship to be surveyed right in Mumbai and is one of the Green Award-certified Sonangol oil tanker, managed by Wallem Ship Management, Hong Kong.
Beside Sonangol Cabinda, we also recently surveyed two other Sonangol oil tankers – Sonangol Njinga Mbande in Mumbai and Sonangol Cazinga in Malaysia, all managed by Wallem Ship management.
Since 1995, Wallem Group has been working with the Green Award Foundation to ensure that the ships under their management excel in safety and environmental compliance.
So far, eleven sea-going oil tankers managed by Wallem Group are Green Award certified, three from Wallem GmbH & Co, Hamburg (Alpes, Aspen and Popi Sazaklis) and eight from Wallem Shipmanagement, Hong Kong (Sonangol Cabinda, Sonangol Cazenga, Sonangol Huila, Sonangol Kulumbimbi, Sonangol Maiombe, Sonangol Namibe, Sonangol Porto Amboim and Sonangol Rangel).
It’s important to mention that Green Award office audits and onboard ship surveys complements other audits or inspections that take place in the industry, such as vetting, port state control and classification societies, with the aim to assist in continuous improvement in safe operations and environmental protection with a strong emphasis on the human element.
As we deepen our presence in Mumbai and across India, our team of expert surveyors are fully ready to continue providing in-depth survey services to help ships exceed required standards. Together, we will achieve cleaner and safer waterborne transportation for people and the planet.
