Ports are taking further steps to reward sustainable practices through updated Green Award incentives.
As of 1 January 2025, the Port of Rotterdam started offering a 70% discount to Green Award certified liquid bulk carriers — including LNG tankers, chemical/gas tankers, and oil/product tankers — on a newly introduced sustainability component, now part of the total port dues.
In addition, Rotterdam continues to support responsible waste management through the Green Award Ship Waste module, which provides access to waste fee discounts aligned with EU sustainability benchmarks. This module is available to both Green Award certified and non-certified ships, encouraging broader industry participation in sustainable waste handling.
The Port of Kobe has also updated its incentive for Green Award certified sea-going vessels, increasing its discount on the entrance fee of port dues from 10% to 15%. This reflects the port’s strengthened commitment to sustainability since joining the programme in 2021.
These updates reaffirm the dedication of both ports to promoting cleaner, safer, and more environmentally responsible maritime operations. Through these financial incentives, Rotterdam and Kobe are advancing shared goals for a more sustainable shipping future.
