DGA Shipping, formerly De Grave-Antverpia, is Green Award Incentive Provider

06/10/2022

A brand new name and a warm welcome as Green Award incentive provider. These were the ingredients of the festive meeting at the DGA Shipping stand at the AntwerpXL trade fair.

Charterer and shipping company DGA Shipping is taking over 100% of the Green Award certificate costs of vessels under contract with them. Dirk Verstraeten, CEO of DGA Shipping: “We take our responsibility for the greening of inland shipping. In this way, we want to do our bit to encourage ships to go the extra mile and reduce their impact on the environment.”

Dirk Verstraeten (right) received the Green Award sign from Jan Fransen (left), Executive director of Green Award, sealing the partnership.

Jan Fransen was happy to travel to his southern neighbours. “Green Award is a Dutch concept, but the proportion of foreign ships is growing steadily. We are receiving more and more applications from Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and France. And that is a good sign, because greening inland navigation knows no borders: it concerns the whole of Europe and even the whole world. That is why I am happy with the support of such a big party as DGA Shipping. With this, together we are making more and more progress’.

Based in the port of Antwerp, DGA Shipping has more than 80 years of experience as a shipping company and chartering office. Its fleet consists of barges and barges and accounts for 250,000 tonnes of cargo capacity.  The fleet transports bulk and breakbulk goods on waterways in Belgium, the Netherlands, France and Germany.
