We are pleased to announce that Dr. Sascha Gill, Board member of IG RiverCruise, has joined the Green Award Board, where he will represent the river cruise sector. In addition to this role, Dr. Gill serves as Chief Executive Officer of UNITED WATERWAYS. With over two decades of international maritime leadership experience, Dr. Gill brings valuable operational expertise and sustainability insight to the Board’s mission of advancing safety, quality, and environmental performance in shipping.
Dr. Sascha Gill has served as Chief Executive Officer of UNITED WATERWAYS since 2024, overseeing ship management and maritime services operations across more than 120 vessels on ocean and inland waterways. He focuses on safe operations, digitalization, and the advancement of sustainable practices in maritime transport.
In addition to his executive leadership, Dr. Gill is a member of the 2026 Board of IG RiverCruise, the largest registered association of river cruise stakeholders. Through this role, he contributes to the strategic direction and representation of the river cruise industry, strengthening collaboration and sustainability efforts within the sector.
Previously, Dr. Gill held senior leadership roles including Vice President Environment and Sustainability at Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and Vice President Nautical Operations at Viking Cruises, where he oversaw fleet operations and sustainability strategies across 69 vessels.
His appointment further reinforces the Green Award Board’s expertise within the inland navigation and river cruise sector and strengthens its ability to promote high standards of safety and environmental performance across the shipping industry.
