In its own port in Werkendam (municipality of Altena. NL), Hakkers presented a first: the first emission-free workboat, ms. “Jan”.
Alderwoman Claudia Schipper, portfolio holder for Sustainability in the municipality of Altena, presented William Hakkers with the Green Award Inland Navigation certificate. At the ‘gold’ level even, with the additional platinum label because the ship is emission-free. Alderwoman Schipper stressed that she was proud that there are companies like Hakkers within Altena that actually realise their sustainability ambitions. Ms Schipper pointed out that the Werkendam harbour has already been giving a discount on harbour dues to ships with a Green Award certificate since 2016, which fits in with the Altena municipality’s sustainability policy.
Jan Fransen, executive director of Green Award, presented William Hakkers with a shield, which will be given a nice place on board.
