Version 2025: Advancing safety, sustainability & best practices

We are pleased to announce the launch of our updated sea-going requirements, which will come into effect on 1 October 2025.

These updates ensure that our certification program continues to go above and beyond international standards, reflecting the latest developments in safety, environmental protection, and best practices in the maritime industry. For our Certificate Holders, the new version provides clarity on operational standards while broadening eligibility for additional ship types.

Highlights of Version 2025

  • Environmental requirements during voyage (R2120): stronger link to voyage planning and environmental compliance.
  • Bunker operations (R3100): safe maximum bunker tank filling set at 90%.
  • Sewage management (R5500): increased focus on monitoring and performance awareness.
  • Fatigue management (R7500): new item added, ensuring fatigue is considered in near-miss investigations.
  • Conditional Assessment Program (R6400 – LNG only): age limit reverted to 15 years.
  • Fire safety standards (R1550 – RoRo only): adjusted to non-applicable items.
  • Other adjustments: R1700, R2100, R5440, R7300.
  • New ship types eligible: Cement carriers and dredgers, further broadening the scope of the Green Award program.

Entry into force

From 1 October 2025, all new audits, surveys, and renewals will apply Version 2025 of the sea-going requirements. Ships already certified may use a grace period until their next renewal.
