Ship Waste module (EU Regulation 2022/91 compliant)

This module is prepared for ships that take responsible initiative on ship waste to be recognised on top of the Green Award ship certification program. According to the PRF Directive (EU) 2019/883, Ports give reduction on ship waste fees and use this Green Award Ship Waste module as a verification body to base this reduction on.

Waste handling has been integrated in the Green Award program for well over 20 years, hence it was a logical step for Green Award to cooperate become a verifying body for this EU directive.

This module is in line with the EU Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/91 of 21 January 2022 defining the criteria for determining that a ship produces reduced quantities of waste and manages its waste in a sustainable and environmentally sound manner in accordance with Directive (EU) 2019/883 of the European Parliament and of the Council.

SHIPS
Ships that meet a set of requirements and receive the “verification report” from Green Award Foundation can redeem reduction on the ship waste fee charged by ports and port reception facilities within the European Union member states. Ships can enroll by filling out this application form.
For Green Award certified ships, it is not required to fill in this form nor is required to undergo an additional verification. Please contact our office for more information.

PORTS
Ports use Green Award as a verification body to identify which ships get the reduction on their ship waste fee based on this European directive. We are currently in talks with various European ports to adopt Green Award as a verifying body. Ports and port reception facilities can reach out to us to find out how they can also utilise Green Award.
