On 19 December, 2017, MacGregor and Green Award announced co-operation. MacGregor became a Green Award incentive provider and during a welcome ceremony was handed a symbolic Green Award plaque by Capt Dimitrios Mattheou, Chairman of the Green Award Foundation, to commemorate MacGregor officially becoming a part of a Green Award network.

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, offers solutions and services for handling marine cargoes, vessel operations, offshore loads, crude/LNG transfer and offshore mooring. Shipbuilders, owners and operators are able to optimise the lifetime profitability, safety, reliability and environmental sustainability of their operations by working in close cooperation with MacGregor.

Voicing its support to safe shipping and quality-driven ship managers, MacGregor has joined the Green Award scheme to encourage further improvement of safe ship operations. Green Award certification scheme, which was launched almost 25 years ago, promotes the highest quality, safety and environmental standards in shipping through certifying vessels that go beyond mandatory regulations.

Captain Mattheou, Green Award Chairman, said addressing Mrs Athena Kanellatou, Branch Manager of MacGregor: ‘Only cooperation of all parties can make shipping safer. Each and every participant of the maritime industry matters and makes a difference. We welcome MacGregor’s decision to reward ships and ship managers that are prepared to invest in extra quality and safety.”

Athena Kanellatou, Branch Manager of MacGregor Greece says: “MacGregor operates in shipping industry as a reliable fellow traveller, dedicated to support this business. We cherish long business partnerships with shipbuilders, owners and operators optimising the lifetime profitability, safety, reliability and environmental sustainability. In that respect, we are pleased to become a member of this team of Green Award Foundation.”

“MacGregor started its Brave to be Safe campaign in June 2016. It is an ongoing process to all of us at MacGregor. The goal of the campaign – ‘No accidents’ – will be reached if everybody is 100% committed to safety. We are also now moving forward with our environmentally-friendly lubricants to help customers safeguard the environment,” emphasises John Carnall, Senior Vice President, MacGregor Global Lifecycle Support. “We look forward to cooperating with Green Award to get a safer and greener future for all seagoers and companies within marine business.”

All Green Award Certified ships are entitled to various discounts or premium terms.
