Green Award celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a conference which was held on 28th June, 2019. The main thread was the importance of cooperation and working together for the green and sustainable future of all parties: the maritime industry, society and governments, or as the theme read “The Ideal Maritime Transport Chain”

With more than 120 attendees from different counties and presentations by recognised industry experts, the event turned out to be a great success.

Vice Mayor of Rotterdam Ms Barbara Kathman opened the conference together with the Foundation Chairman Capt. Dimitrios Mattheou. 4 Sessions covered hot topics: the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Efficient Logistics, Energy Transition and Autonomous Shipping. During each session the port, inland- and deep sea shipping perspectives were highlighted to underline the interdependency of these sectors. Presentations of Dutch and international speakers sparked interest of the audience and delivered information on the best practices.

Speakers, panelists and other conference guests were the maritime industry professionals from various organizations who gathered to share the knowledge and to celebrate Green Award’s anniversary. Attendees were able to network at the coffee and lunch breaks as well as at the reception, which followed the conference, and were positive about the excellent networking opportunities.

Instead of the goodybags, Green Award decided to support a charity with high impact. All attendees could vote which cause they wanted to support. By the majority of votes, the amount of € 4.620 goes to the Maarten van der Weijden Foundation and will help a cancer research.

The event was supported and made possible by all the sponsors. The two main sponsors were Gard and the Municipality of Rotterdam. Conference organizer Mare Forum, that celebrates its 20th birthday this year, also contributed to this success.

Green Award thanks all those who attended and spoke at the event for their great input.
Our special thanks goes to the ones who contributed to the event making it a successful gathering to remember.
